Virat Kohli, former captain of India, ended Sunday night (September 4) with a stunning revelation at the post-match press conference. This was after his five-wicket defeat to Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2022 Super 4 Match. Kohli claimed that no one reached out to Kohli during a difficult time. Instead, MS Dhoni was the one who texted Kohli after he quit Test captaincy.
Kohli stated after the match, “One thing that I can tell is that when I quit Test captaincy I received a message only from MS Dhoni who I’ve previously played with.”
He had stated that “a lot of people have mine number and a lot of people make suggestions on TV. But among those who have my phone number, I didn’t receive a message from any other person.”
A top official of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, BCCI, said that everyone supported him during his difficult period after he quit as captain. “Virat has been supported by everyone. From his teammates to the BCCI. It is false to say that he didn’t get the support he needed. He was given frequent rest and a break to recharge. Everybody at BCCI wished him well on social media as he retired from the Test captaincy. “So, I don’t know what he’s talking about,” an InsideSport official said.
Virat Kohli should identify the player from whom he expected to receive a call after quitting Test captaincy and specify the type of message he wanted to receive. This was Sunil Gavaskar’s suggestion on Monday (September 5). Kohli, who scored 60 runs in India’s five-wicket defeat to Pakistan in the Asia Cup match on Sunday said that, except for MS Dhoni, no other former players called him.
Gavaskar was extremely categorical when he was asked about Virat’s grievance. It’s difficult to know who Virat is referring to. If he had taken any names, then you can go and ask the person if they have contacted you. According to Sports Tak, Gavaskar said that he only spoke of MSD calling him after he left Test captaincy.
“If he’s talking about former players who played with him, then we all know who they are. He should identify the player he’s referring to. Ask them Kya Bhai aapne koi Message nahi Kiya (Bro, you didn’t message me?).”
However, Gavaskar’s sharp wittiness and sarcasm were evident in what he said next regarding what Kohli was expecting. “What message was he looking for?” he questioned. “Encouragement? “Encouragement? Gavaskar stated that this chapter (captaincy), was already closed.
He believed that when you leave captaincy, it’s the best thing to be able only to concentrate on your game. You are now playing as a cricketer. You should focus on this role, because captains think about and worry about their mates. The legendary opener stated that captaincy should be over and it is time to concentrate on your game.
