The world of fashion is a complex one, with many different designers and brands. However, some of the best designers are known worldwide and have been producing clothes for decades. Here are just a few of them:
Donatella Versace is an Italian fashion designer and current vice president of the Versace Group, as well as its chief designer. She is the daughter of Gianni Versace, the founder of Versace, who was murdered in July 1997.

Her most recent debut collection for Spring/Summer 2018 includes a collection called “V,” which features wide-legged trousers paired with pencil skirts or dresses in vivid colors like fuchsia pink and electric lime green.
Karl Lagerfeld is a German fashion designer, artist and photographer. He has collaborated with numerous photographers, including Richard Avedon, Irving Penn and Annie Leibovitz, to name a few.
Karl Lagerfeld was born on July 12th 1934 in Hamburg, Germany. He attended the School of Art History (Hochschule für bildende Künste) in Stuttgart where he studied under Professor Franz Fischli and Hans Zehrer before graduating with honors in 1958. After his graduation he participated in an exhibition organized by Daimler-Benz at the International Motor Show Berlin 1957 as well as having been invited by Karl Penck (a noted German artist) to participate in several exhibitions both inside Germany as well as abroad such as one held at Herbst Gallery New York City during 1960s decade.
Oscar de la Renta was a Dominican-American fashion designer based in New York City. He founded his eponymous fashion house in 1965, and became known for his feminine and flamboyant designs.
De la Renta’s signature style was a combination of classic couture tailoring with contemporary fabrics and trimmings such as fur, lace and velvet. His first collection featured long gowns that followed from neckline to hemline; these were often lined with satin or chiffon ribbons to create dramatic silhouettes.[1] De la Renta also produced ready-to-wear (RTW) collections for department stores throughout the world including Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale’s (United States), Holt Renfrew & Co., Nordstrom Inc., Dillard’s Department Store Inc..
Giorgio Armani is an Italian fashion designer and founder of the Armani brand. He is known for his clean, tailored lines and use of cashmere, silk and cotton.
Armani started his career in 1966 with a men’s suit factory called Maison Fiat in Turin, Italy with his brother Gildo who worked as an assistant designer. In 1975 he founded Giorgio Armani S.p.A., which became one of Italy’s most influential luxury brands after its IPO on the Milan Stock Exchange in 1984.[1]
Ralph Lauren is an American fashion designer, philanthropist, and business executive. He is known for his highly recognizable menswear line that includes polo shirts, three-piece suits and sportswear.
Ralph Lauren was born in The Bronx on February 24th 1933 to parents who immigrated from Eastern Europe. His father was a tailor and his mother worked in a garment factory. As a child he attended Public School 75 where he excelled at sports such as basketball and baseball before moving on to high school at Fieldston Lower School where he played football while focusing more on academics than athletics; after graduating from Fieldston in 1951 with honors (honors include Cum Laude), Ralph enrolled at the University of Pennsylvania but left after one year due to financial problems caused by his father’s death when Ralph was 17 years old

She became a socialite and philanthropist after marrying Austrian Count Hubertus von Hohenlohe-Waldenburg-Schillingsfürst in 1974.
Calvin Klein is an American fashion designer who founded the Calvin Klein Corporation, a global multibillion-dollar enterprise. He joined the company in 1969 and was named its president in 1972.
Klein started his own fashion label in 1968 after leaving Anne Klein (his mother) and became successful enough that he became known as “The King of Print”. In 1977 he left America for Europe where he continued to build his business until moving back again to New York City in 1983.
Vivienne Westwood is a British fashion designer and businesswoman, largely responsible for bringing modern punk and new wave fashions into the mainstream. She is best known for her clothing designs which feature radical political messages and provocative imagery.
Vivienne Isabel Swire was born on 8 April 1941 in Tintwistle, Cheshire, England. Her father was Colonel Francis Herbert Swire of the Indian Army Air Force; he died when she was young, leaving her mother to raise their two children alone on a military pension until their own divorce in 1950 when Vivienne was ten years old.[1]
Vera Wang was born on December 8, 1949 in New York City. She is the daughter of Chinese immigrants and grew up in Scarsdale, New York. Her parents owned a clothing store called Jing Wang.
As a child, Vera went to boarding school at St. Margaret’s School for Girls on Long Island but then transferred to Barnard College where she graduated with a degree in art history with minors in art education and Italian studies (she would later receive an honorary doctorate). After graduating from college, Vera moved back home where she worked as an assistant buyer at Bloomingdale’s department store until it closed its doors forever due to bankruptcy proceedings initiated by its parent company Bamberger Burke & Co.. During this time period she also worked for Anne Klein as well as Ralph Lauren before starting her own label under license from those companies
Alexander Wang is a Chinese-American fashion designer. He was born in San Francisco, California. He graduated from the Parsons School of Design in 2003 and moved to New York City where he currently resides with his wife and two children.
Wang has been called the “most influential menswear designer of this generation”, by Vogue magazine[1] as well as being described by The New York Times as “one of fashion’s most exciting young designers”.
In 2008, his first collection for Spring/Summer 2009 featured a collection of leather goods under his own label (which later became APC). After years working at Marc Jacobs’ diffusion line Louis Vuitton under John Galliano, Wang launched his own eponymous label in 2011 with an emphasis on urban streetwear including bomber jackets and chunky boots.[2]
The best fashion designers do not necessarily make clothes for everybody, but for the few. They are artists who create works of art. If you want to be like them and become one of their favorite clients, then you need to follow their lead and create something original as well.
